  1. Do our possessions own us, or do we own them? I often feel trapped by what I own and I dream of clearing out the closets, the attic, the basement, the garage. I dream of an uncluttered space where I can read, think and create. I don't want to have to look around at all the stuff I own. I often feel like I am the figure in the photograph above who seems unable to move, who feels trapped by possessions. Yet there are some possessions that I love and that I cannot part with such as my poetry and photography books.

Write an essay about key material possessions you own. Choose a possession, or several, that means a great deal to you and that reveals something about you and your life.

Include a photograph of the objects you write about, and try to make it show your relationship to material things.

  2. This photo reminds me the first bodega that I visit when I first moved to New Jersey from my native country. My uncle owned. My father worked with him too.

  4. I think that in most cases our possessions own us even thought we think that we own them.

As humans we tend to think that we are free but this is not true. We are always attached to something and if we don’t have it we go weird.

Personally I attach to my watch. I can’t go out without having my watch with me.
